JULY 3, 2008 (Thursday) LIVE JAZZ - SHAWN MAXWELL QUARTET (The music starts at 7.30 p.m.)
Tonight's live jazz entertainment is provided by the Shawn Maxwell Quartet. The band played for us in July 2007, and were a huge success. The Shawn Maxwell Quartet performs an eclectic mix of jazz styles, ranging from big band standards to contemporary jazz classics and original material. The quartet was put together in 2004. In late 2004 Shawn took the band into the studio to record what would be their debut CD “Originals.” In the Fall of 2006 The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Committee placed Shawn Maxwell on the Official Ballot for the 2007 Grammy Awards in the following categories: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo, Best Jazz Instrumental Album. Check out the photographs from the band's last visit here and their website here.

JULY 4, 2008 (Friday) BROOKFIELD'S 4TH OF JULY PARADE
This morning, the Society again takes part in Brookfield's annual 4th of July Parade. The BJS float vehicle is kindly loaned to us by Berthel Lewis Electric. Society members dress the float and pass out candy and BJS information along the route. Come join us on the float or watch the parade go by - its a lot of fun! Check out the photos from last year here. If you would like to be part of the Society's float, please contact Ian Tiele by clicking here.

JULY 17, 2008 (Thursday) LIVE JAZZ - THE ANDREAS KAPSALIS TRIO (The music starts at 7.30 p.m.)
Tonight, we welcome the wonderful Andreas Kapsalis Trio back to the Cottage for their third appearance. The trio have a totally original sound, mixing jazz with elements of eastern and other musical styles. They are, without doubt one of the most popular bands to ever play for the Society. For this event, there is a suggested band collection donation of $5 per person for BJS members (with membership card); non-BJS members will be charged a cover charge of $5 at the door. All monies raised go to the band. Check out the photos of their last appearance here and their website here.
